Messe Düsseldorf announced that falling attendance has prompted it to give up the GDS shoe trade show. Igedo will acquire the show after the February edition and move it to Düsseldorf's Areal Böhler in late August.
15,200 people visited the trade fair, which took place from February 10-12. The latest edition of GDS hosted 800 brands versus 900 in the previous season, while tag it! attracted 100 exhibitors compared to 233 in 2015.
GDS has launched its online version, in a manner of speaking. The Düsseldorf footwear trade show announced a collaboration with Berlin virtual marketplace We Want Shoes. The project is simply labelled 'GDS 365'.
To further expand its international presence, Kenneth Cole is teaming up with the the Belgian-based company. Together they will enter the footwear market in select European countries in the fall of 2016.
Nearly 300 participants are expected at the 4th World Department Store Forum, to be held this year from April 23-24 in Rome. Every two years, the conference brings together brands, retailers and department stores.
